Music Discovery #18 of 2012

As you may have noticed, there was no music post last week as I was in Madrid, Spain. Therefore, this weeks post will have a little more music than usual as I play catch-up. Seems to be a common theme; have a couple good weeks staying on top of it all, followed by a week or two of inactivity then another week or two of getting back up to speed.

There is a Fleetwood Mac tribute album being released soon, with covers by many of the indie artists whom are making the rounds these days. About half of the album is available to listen to so far (check it out here), and I have shared some of my favorites below.

And Blonds! Again! This is the third great song I have posted of theirs, and I am greatly anticipating their album The Bad Ones which is supposed to drop on August 7th.

This week’s post is going to try out a new (to me) audio player from ex.fm. As their website states, “The exfm site player is the easiest way to play back music on your site – mp3’s, Soundcloud, Bandcamp and more.”

You should see the exfm player attached at the bottom of the page, and it should contain all the music it could parse from my post. It looks like the only thing it doesn’t pick up that I might post is YouTube. Feedback is welcome.

What better way to shake off your case of the Mondays but with a list of fantastic music from this past week, curated by yours truly.

All the music below is worth a listen, but be sure to watch the video for Beirut – The Rip Tide. I really enjoyed the visual twist at the end, and of course the song is swell.

The Charli XCX mixtape is decent, shared primarily for the first track which is a cover of Blood Orange – Champagne Coast, which is great and was shared in one of my posts previously.

Lastly, The Mynabirds track has a riff that reminds me of the “I wish it was Christmas today” song from SNL.

And yes, there seems to be some sort of bird theme this week.

As promised (or threatened depending on how you look at it) earlier in the week, another post of great music I missed while life was happening. Happy friday!

Yea yea, been a while since the last post… but it’s not without good reason. Since my last post I have gotten married, driven more than half way across the country, and spent a week in Hawaii (Maui to be exact). Any downtime I have had since all of this has happened has been spent either working, unpacking, making sure I have a happy wife, and crawling out from underneath the crush of blogs I fell behind on.

This week will have a couple posts as I have some catching up to do… so without further ado, do what you do.

This week saw the passing of Beastie Boys member Adam Yauch (MCA), at the age of 48. Over the last number of days there have been many wonderfully things said about the man, the Boys, and their influence on my generation… thoughts and stories more eloquent and coherent than I could ever say or share. It’s just amazing to see the impact he/they had, and sad to hear of his passing at a relatively young age.

I could share some of my favorite Beastie Boys songs below, but I just don’t even know where to start as there are so many, and you’ve all heard them before I am sure. You can’t go wrong with Paul’s Boutique and Ill Communication (I’ve practically had them on a loop since Friday) and if you’ve somehow never given these albums a listen, do yourself a favor and check them out.

Also check out these other fantastic arists & songs I have discovered since my last post, all over the place this week so there is a little something for everyone.

Oh man, new artist alert… Mr. Little Jeans! I haven’t heard a song of hers/theirs that I haven’t loved. Unfortunately no full length album available yet, but a handful of fantastic singles and covers are out there, a few of which I linked below.

And since one of the songs from Mr. Little Jeans is an RAC remix, I am going to expound on RAC a little bit with some other fantastic remixes of theirs.

Also, there is a full stream available of the upcoming Lower Dens album. On it is the song Brains which I shared back in issue #3. The album of course gives you a better sense of their sound, not quite what I expected based of their initial singles but it’s good and has some hints of Beach House.

Lastly, be sure to check out the FEZ soundtrack, for the game of the same name. I have yet to play this game myself, but I have loved the 8bit sounds since the first time I saw the PAX gameplay trailer last year.

Sometimes you eat the bear, sometimes the bear eats you, and sometimes you make the bear put on a leotard and dance in a vat of cottage cheese. After a number of weeks being behind, I am back on top of the music blogs and these posts.
