Music Discovery #22 of 2012

The new Matthew Dear album is available for streaming, comes out next week I believe… check it out below. Matthew Dear has such a fantastic and unique sound, and his music is distinctly his own. The Fighting Is Futile track is the biggest standout for me, of those from the album that I had not heard yet. I’ve linked a couple great tracks recently, Pipe Dreams and Crimewaves, and both are sadly absent from this album.

Pet Lions reminds me a bit of The Ocean Blue. The Ocean Blue – Cerulean was the first CD I ever bought, all the way back in 1991. The standout on that album was Ballerina Out Of Control, I have included it below for your education. As you may be able to tell, I have had this affinity for the intersection of shoegaze, surf, and indie rock for quite a while. Hope you enjoy it/them as much as I have over the years.

Please note that the exfm player doesn’t pick up YouTube links, or album streams from Soundcloud, so you’ll have to play those individually.

Music Discovery #18 of 2012

As you may have noticed, there was no music post last week as I was in Madrid, Spain. Therefore, this weeks post will have a little more music than usual as I play catch-up. Seems to be a common theme; have a couple good weeks staying on top of it all, followed by a week or two of inactivity then another week or two of getting back up to speed.

There is a Fleetwood Mac tribute album being released soon, with covers by many of the indie artists whom are making the rounds these days. About half of the album is available to listen to so far (check it out here), and I have shared some of my favorites below.

And Blonds! Again! This is the third great song I have posted of theirs, and I am greatly anticipating their album The Bad Ones which is supposed to drop on August 7th.

Yea yea, been a while since the last post… but it’s not without good reason. Since my last post I have gotten married, driven more than half way across the country, and spent a week in Hawaii (Maui to be exact). Any downtime I have had since all of this has happened has been spent either working, unpacking, making sure I have a happy wife, and crawling out from underneath the crush of blogs I fell behind on.

This week will have a couple posts as I have some catching up to do… so without further ado, do what you do.

This week saw the passing of Beastie Boys member Adam Yauch (MCA), at the age of 48. Over the last number of days there have been many wonderfully things said about the man, the Boys, and their influence on my generation… thoughts and stories more eloquent and coherent than I could ever say or share. It’s just amazing to see the impact he/they had, and sad to hear of his passing at a relatively young age.

I could share some of my favorite Beastie Boys songs below, but I just don’t even know where to start as there are so many, and you’ve all heard them before I am sure. You can’t go wrong with Paul’s Boutique and Ill Communication (I’ve practically had them on a loop since Friday) and if you’ve somehow never given these albums a listen, do yourself a favor and check them out.

Also check out these other fantastic arists & songs I have discovered since my last post, all over the place this week so there is a little something for everyone.
